House passes bill on 7-12-07 to withdraw US combat troops from Iraq; Senate votes on similar bill next week
On July 12, 2007 the House of Reps passed HR 2956 which requires US combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by April 30, 2008. Congressmen Payne and Pascrell both voted YES.
The Senate will consider next week amendments 2087 and 2088 to the Defense Authorization Bill HR 1595 that have similar language, introduced by Senators Levin and Reed, and co-sponsored by Senators Smith, Hagel, Snowe, Kerry, Biden, Obama, Clinton, and Durbin (Smith, Hagel and Snowe are Republicans).
Please contact Senator Frank Lautenberg and Senator Robert Menendez and urge them to co-sponsor the Levin-Reed amendment to withdraw combat troops by April 30, 2008.
