REPLY BY STACEY JENNINGS:

I have my own personal feelings about the war, however my focus has to be on how it affects South Orange overall. I appreciate the fact that your group is able to bring issues like this to the forefront and I believe Trustees have to support letter writing campaigns and additional approaches to voicing our concerns to our higher government agencies and officials.

QUESTION #2 In this era of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act, do you think a Trustee or Township Committee member has a responsibility to protect First Amendment and privacy rights of our residents, as well as to assure a safe and secure environment? How would you do this?

A Trustee has to encourage guidelines that protect every citizen within our town. However, we must balance our constitutional rights against extraordinary threats to our security. Additionally, we must insure that the measures deployed do not jeopardize our privacy, First Amendments and Civil Rights.

REPLY BY STACEY JENNINGS:

The war has a different impact on everyone. Family members have been sent to fight this war, leaving wives and children behind; loved ones have been lost; Families are feeling economic burdens based on changes in their lives; people no longer have the freedom to travel anywhere in the world; During this time, Trustees have to be sensitized to the morale, individual strain and overall impact that the war has throughout our town and our country.
